The Malabuyoc Mayor's Cup Open Chess Tournament 2026 brings the Malabuyoc fiesta to the chessboard on Saturday, September 5, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM at the Malabuyoc Municipal Covered Court in Malabuyoc, Cebu. It is a nine-round Swiss open at a rapid time control of 15 minutes plus a 3-second increment, seeded on the July 2026 local ratings, and it is open to all chess enthusiasts — no rating floor, no age limit. ₱52,000 in cash prizes is on the line across three ladders. The Top Standings ladder pays down to 15th place and is led by a ₱10,000 champion's prize. A separate Top Malabuyocnon ladder pays the ten best players from Malabuyoc itself, with ₱5,000 to its champion. Seven ₱500 special awards go to the Top Lady, Top PWD, Top Senior and the best players Under 20, Under 16, Under 12 and Under 8. Entry is ₱300 regular, ₱200 discounted for seniors, PWDs, ladies and students, and just ₱50 for Malabuyocnon. Registration is by GCash to the organisers — there are no player reservations, and anyone who registers on-site is paired starting in Round 2 with a half point for Round 1. The tournament is presented by the Municipality of Malabuyoc together with its Sangguniang Kabataan, and run by the Cebu School of Chess.
