Where Cebu's young champions compete. Mr. Potato Junior Chess Open 2026 is a one-day, 7-round Swiss rapid (10 minutes + 5 seconds) for elementary and high school students at CityMall Consolacion. Two separate divisions, two separate prize ladders — Elementary and High School — with ₱9,200 in cash prizes and 23 medals on the line. Every player receives a ₱100 Mr Potato voucher, usable on any Mr Potato product. Limited to 100 slots. Online registration only — no walk-ins. Presented by Mr Potato, with venue partner CityMall Consolacion, organized by Consolacion Chess Club.

Elementary and High School players compete in one combined playing hall and may be paired against each other, but the two prize ladders are ranked and awarded separately. Your division is fixed at registration by your current school level — an Elementary player cannot claim a High School placement, or the reverse, even if their final score would place them on the other ladder. The Top Female award follows the same rule and is given once per division. Top Under-8 is Elementary Division only. Top 10 Unrated is the single exception — it is ranked across the combined field. SCHEDULE 9:30 AM — Player arrival and attendance confirmation 10:00 AM — Attendance confirmation closes · Opening program 10:30 AM — Round 1 11:15 AM — Round 2 12:00 NN to 12:45 PM — Lunch break 12:45 PM — Round 3 1:25 PM — Round 4 2:05 PM — Round 5 2:45 to 3:00 PM — Short break 3:00 PM — Round 6 3:40 PM — Round 7 4:20 PM — Awarding ceremony 5:00 PM — End of event Two rounds are played in the morning and five in the afternoon. Lunch is a fixed 12:00 NN to 12:45 PM window, so players who finish Round 2 early are not penalised. FORMAT Swiss System, 7 rounds, 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment. Divisions: Elementary and High School, assigned by current school level. Tie-breaks: Buchholz Cut 1, then Buchholz, then Direct Encounter. AWARD RULES All cash placements from 1st to 10th also receive a medal. Top Under-8 is open to players born on or after January 1, 2018, Elementary Division only. Unrated means no local rating on record as of the registration date. Top 10 Unrated is ranked across the combined field, not per division. If fewer than 10 unrated players register, only those competing are awarded. A player may win both a cash placement and a special award. EQUIPMENT Boards, sets and clocks are provided by the organizer.
